Expense management is evolving—and Sweden is already ahead. With nearly half of all employees managing expenses at work, and expense app usage growing faster than in any other market, Sweden is one of the most digitally mature markets in this space.
The 2025 state of expense management report for Sweden provides a snapshot of these trends. Based on survey data from 2022 and 2024, this edition explores how employees manage expenses at work, the tools they use, and how Sweden compares with other markets.
The report highlights that more employees than ever are managing expenses at work, with 48% of Swedish employees managingexpenses at work in 2024, placing Sweden above the all-market average (44%), in line with the Nordic average (47%), and well ahead of Europe (40%).
We're also seeing a clear move towards digital solutions. Expense app usage increased by +9%, which is the largest rise across all surveyed markets. At the same time, reliance on accounting or payroll systems for expense management declined -5%, as more businesses favour expense apps designed specifically for this purpose. Manual tools, such as pens and paper, are also in decline.
This momentum indicates a clear opportunity. With strong digital foundations in place, Sweden's opportunity now lies in accelerating the shift as mobile-first, scalable expense tools become the standard. Sweden is not just along for the ride; it is shaping the direction of where things go next.
